FTP auto-Purge

We have a rule in our FTP to automatically purge all idle files after 14-days. Does anyone know if this is an issue for the client? Can it handle this and not lose all info with respect to revision. (just to answer before i get the question, i cannot change this, this is corporate policy where i work and changing this, at least at time, is not in my power). Also, can it handle files being replaced or over written on the system directly...many of our vendors will not be using this client and will more than likely make changes at some point or another....will this also be a case for potential issues?

As I replied via email, yes, this will create problems. specifically by wiping out older file versions.
