Could not send email notification

Post by phuguet »

I don't seem to make the SMTP work
it says :

Message Box: Could not send e-mail message to pierre@xpdreamteam.com (‹A…Àu¸€ÝP).

Any Idea?

I double checked the user name password are set correctly
Note: My SMTP server requires login. I'm running Vista

Hmm, I have no trouble sending mail using authentication, including from Vista. When I test this by clicking on the "Test SMTP settings by sending e-mail to yourself" button in Settings | Sending Mail, I get the following:

---------------------------------------------------
Message Box: E-mail message was successfully sent to info@prestosoft.com. Check your mailbox in your e-mail client software to complete the test.
---------------------------------------------------

Are you sure your settings are correct? Could you post an screenshot of your settings?

If I uncheck SMTP Requires authentication then the message says:
Message Box: E-mail message was successfully sent to pierre@xpdreamteam.com. Check your mailbox in your e-mail client software to complete the test.

BUT the message is never sent to me.

Notice the difference in the exchanges with the smtp server...

This is the exchange with the mail server when the checkbox is checked:

10/10/2007 2:40:36 PM - Requested SMTP connection from 66.27.122.92 [66.27.122.92], ID=127

10/10/2007 2:40:37 PM - ( 127) 250-Welcome, 66.27.122.92 [66.27.122.92], pleased to meet you

10/10/2007 2:40:37 PM - ( 127) 221 Aba he

And this is the exchange when the checkbox is unchecked:

10/10/2007 2:43:31 PM - Requested SMTP connection from 66.27.122.92 [66.27.122.92], ID=145

Now this is the conversation MS outlook has with the same server sending an email from the same computer:

10/10/2007 2:50:03 PM - { 176} START SMTP

Thanks for the detailed response log.

It looks like FtpVC doesn't handle the type of authentication your SMTP server requires. It would be nice if I could see the sent commands along with responses that you posted. What could help even more is if you could create a temporary SMTP account for us on your server, so that we could debug what exactly is going on with the SMTP exchange.

Thanks. Please keep the account for some time as it may take a while to debug the problem.

We are going to improve SMTP support in the upcoming version. I sent you a private message with the link to an early build -- please let us know if it works for you.
