Suggestion: Compare window could contain option summary

Post by JeremyNicoll »

Following on from my desire to have the Compare window open even when EDP is called from the shell extension (enabled by specifying /sd in Options -> Global -> CLI options), I'm wondering if there's any plan to provide a summary of currently selected options in the Compare window.
For example one line of telltale icons could tell the user if certain types of option are set, eg

- if any simple text ignore settings are set
- if any regex text ignore settings are set
- if any column range text ignore settings are set
- what the auto/text/binary setting is
- what the line/word/char detail level is
- if any file plugins are enabled
- if any directory plugins are enabled

Obviously one could go too far with this; but I think it might be possible to come up with a suitable subset of the whole range of options that could still be useful to people.

Also, once one does go into the Options dialog, it's still hard to tell at a glance what is set. Eg in the treeview pane, Options -> Plugins is displayed in yellow whether any plugins are enabled or not. Perhaps the icon could be greyed-out if no Plugin processing is enabled, or its description could be "Plugins F=Y D=N" or "Plugins (Files,NoDirs)" or something? And similary for other sections of the tree?

Thanks for your suggestion. This is something to think about; it would certainly be helpful to have some sort of a summary but coming up with one is going to be tricky.

Well, since I often need to change the options I put many of them in the tool bar.
This way I can see at a glance which one are active and which are not and change them with a mouse click.
