Coming Up In Version 15

Post by psguru »

This topic will be a place to announce and discuss new features coming up in ExamDiff Pro 15.0.

The theme of this release will be directory comparison improvements. Once big change coming up is tree mode, in which comparison results are displayed recursively in a tree view, with subdirectories that can be expanded and collapsed (just like in Windows Explorer). Here's an example of comparison results:

Another new feature that affects directory comparison is an option to perform fast file content comparison:

This will simply compare files byte-by-byte, considering files different at first byte difference, without using plug-ins or Ignore options. Naturally, this will make directory comparison of files by their contents much faster.

Yet another set of new features in directory comparison include view filtering improvements. We moved the path view filter trigger from Options | Display | View Filter to a new command, Use Path View Filter under the View menu, along with adding a matching toolbar button:

We also added a new toolbar that allows to specify a quick path view include filter. It provides a way to quickly filter out directory comparison items based on an include pattern:

We also made improvements in ExamDiff Pro HTML reports for directory and archive comparison.

The most immediately noticeable difference is that HTML reports will now render the directory tree view mode if the original comparison session used Tree Mode (which will be the default directory comparison mode starting in ExamDiff Pro 15.0). So, for example, here is what an HTML diff report looks like when comparing two directories in Tree Mode:

tree_mode_html1_orig.png (228.64 KiB) Viewed 2947 times

In the tree view, you can expand and collapse directories by clicking on the triangle icons to the left of them, just like in ExamDiff Pro.

In addition to the tree view feature, HTML reports for directory comparison will now let you resize the columns – a small quality-of-life feature that can make a big difference when, for example, you are comparing directories that contain files with long names. To resize a column, just drag that column's divider in either pane, and it will resize appropriately in both panes simultaneously.
