Examdiff Pro 3.2c: Crash with directory snapshots

If the user policy "Hide the dropdown list of recent files" (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\comdlg32\NoFileMru=1) is activated it is impossible to create or work with directory snapshots.

After choosing the corresponding menu option (Directories->Save snapshot...) or via the "Compare new pair" dialog Examdiff immediately dies.
No error message, no Dr.Watson. Only Examdiff is closed.

Environment: Windows XP SP2 (german) and Examdiff Pro 3.2c (unregistered)

With Windows XP SP1 everything works fine. Even with activated setting.

Good catch. While I could reproduce the problem with creating a snapshot (this will be fixed in the next release), comparing with existing snapshots seems to work fine. Can you confirm it?

Hello psguru,

sometime it works with the "Compare new pair" dialog, sometimes not.

I found no repeatable error condition. Perhaps it depends on some other complg32 policy settings?

Is it only a problem with snapshot comparison, or you can't compare a real file/directory? Also, what other setting do you have under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32?

Normally I set "NoBackButton"=dword:00000001 and "NoPlacesBar"=dword:00000001 in this key, too

I tried your keys, and found no problems comparing with a snapshot.

Still:

1. Can you compare files/directories?
2 .Can you compare with a snapshot that was created without NoFileMru option?
3. Is the problem reproducible?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Of course, otherwise I wouldn't open a topic. With NoFileMru=1 set and pressing CTRL-E within examdiff, examdiff immediately vanish

This last point is unclear. I understand (and can reproduce) that EDP crashes if, after a directory comparison, you right-click, then select "Save Snapshot" command -- if you have NoFileMru=1. Now you are saying that it crashes after CTRL-E. I can't reproduce it. What are the steps leading to this?

Sorry, my mistake.
I meant EDP crashes after pressing CTRL-F11 or CTRL-F12, NOT CTRL-E.

Correct. The fix will appear in the next version. Thanks again for reporting this hard to find problem.
