Filtering changed?

Post by MSpagni »

Since a long time I'm using this filter:

Code: Select all

desktop.ini,thumbs.db,pagefile.sys,usrclass.dat,usrclass.dat.log,ntuser.dat,ntuser.dat.log,sam,sam.log,security,security.log,software,software.log,system,system.log,edb.log,datastore.edb,:*\WINDOWS\Prefetch\*,:*\WINDOWS\system32\config\default.,:*\WINDOWS\system32\config\default.log,:*\System Volume Information\*,:*\RECYCLER\*,:*\temporary internet files\*,:*\cronologia\*,:*\datacoll\*
With version 5.5 I have the "System Volume Information" directory shown.
Has something been changed in the filtering syntax or it has always been there and it's my memory at fault?

It's always worked this way. :*\System Volume Information\* will exclude all paths that contain \System Volume Information\, which your C:\System Volume Information does not. You can simply use a less restrictive :*\System Volume Information*

You're right.
The filter for "System Volume Information" never worked as I wanted, but since the directories always figured equal (probably since they are unreadable) I never noticed them.

Thank you for the correction.

What follows is that, if there's something changed (and something has changed), I must investigate on my computer...

Yes indeed, something has changed in my computer: the System Volume Information directory of my backup drive has become not "hidden" nor "system" and is perfectly accessible!
I have no clear idea why. Perhaps an aborted system files defrag?

Anyway, thank you again for the filter correction.

By the way: what about an obvious, more immediate, way to get to the filter edit/edit/delete functions?

You can either edit your filter directly in the text box (or in your text editor and then copy/paste), or click on the button next to the Manage filter drop-down and select Edit Filter. We'll probably add hyperlinks to the Include and Exclude text label to invoke the same Edit Filter dialog.
