Dir or file?

When comparing directories not in tree mode, now there is no way to tell if an entry is a file or an empty directory.

I'd like to see a screenshot but an empty directory will have folder icon and the 'File folder' (localized) type.

Sorry, just back from holdays.
It seems that the problem is only on XP.
The only files with an icon are the .asm files and the icon is (i think) that of notpad.
In any case, that's NOT the icon associated and shown in explorer.
Another side effect of the aborted installation?

Seems unlikely. You can try clean installation and see. Do the icons display correctly in flat mode? A couple of screenshots would help.

I'll try the clean install. (By the way: it's a good moment to clean the relics of version 14, 13, 12...

)
For now, here is a screenshot.
As you can see, also the .h and .c files have an icon, but not the right one.
N.B. Output and Foo are (empty) directories.

It looks more of a Windows problem of file type associations (check properties of these files in Explorer).
N.B. Output and Foo are (empty) directories.
You still have the Type column showing File Folder, right?

Yes, but more often than not it's out of screen.

Do you have "Use Windows® icons and file types (slower)" set under Display options?

Yes.
Anyway, I didn't change it since a long time, if ever.

I can see some strange icons on Windows XP here as well. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee a fix. Besides, there will be no XP support in the next version so...

Having said that, we'll have a fix for this in the next build.

I understand the strong temptation to drop the XP compatibility and I can't really blame you.
I read that Microsoft wants to drop the 32 bit compatibility susbsystem completely...
In this specific case, this is not a new feature and it worked fine until the latest updates, so, teoretically, your fix should work.
Thank you, as always.
