examdiff pro guesses at file names ??

I love this product so much I hate to complain but maybe it's just that I have a wrong setting.
When I click on compare new pair I'd like it to just leave what I have alone until I change it. Quit guessing!
I have options
enable autopick off (no check mark)
retain file directory pair on .. i've tried it both ways a few times
when I click compare new pair icon the file name keeps going back to a file that doesn't even exist anymore. :-~{
Just updated to latest release ... will check to see if this problem is solved. Nope - still fails errr changes the filename

Autopick doesn't control how the files or directories are selected for a new comparison; it only controls whether the second file/directory is picked based on the first one and the history. For a new comparison EDPro always remembers the last compared pair (separately for files and directories).

I wonder why it's not doing that for me. Do you see in my image how I've been comparing two files named categorygridpage.ascx in different directories? When I click on compare new pair file2 stays the same but file 1 picks up a different file and directory. Could it have something to do with the first file in the comparison was in a c:\temp directory? :?

There are some rules related to temp paths but I doubt that they apply to your situation. What are the exact steps that lead to the problem (the more details the better)?

(sorry I missed the latest reply - just in here checking and noticed it). I'm not sure I understand your question.

This morning I compared a couple of directories from separate winzip files which I had downloaded to c:\temp\xxxx and c:\temp\yyyy ... worked beautifully - closed examdiff pro. I just now reopened the product, it was not pointed at directories (the latest use), when I clicked on directories it did not point to the latest directories I had used so I picked this one: C:\Temp\ac7RC3_CardValidationPatch and it automatically compared to: C:\LavenDev\CardValidationPatchAfterStyle
then I closed the program again. Once again I opened it and it was pointed at files.
file 1: C:\LavenDev\serverCopy\Admin\menu.sitemap
file2: C:\LavenDev\CardValidationPatchAfterStyle which of course is the directory I previously used ... not a file. :?

I can't reproduce this. Could you tell me what your temp path is (one way to find out is to type %temp% in the Address bar of Windows Explorer and hit enter).

Sorry, I thought I'd said that earlier: C:\Temp

I think that was the problem. I added a new folder called tempkeep, moved the directory I was testing earlier to that directory now examdiff pro works correctly. I'm not sure why you'd want to have logic related to the %temp% directory but probably a good reason.

Hmm... I still can't reproduce this. My temp path is "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Temp". So I compared "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Temp\plugtmp-1" and "C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Temp\plugtmp-1", then closed the application. Upon reopening it I get the Compare dialog, in directory comparison mode, and with the same two folders that I compared the last.
