"Dir changed outside ExamDiff Pro" in Vista

After dircompare and file-copy, I get the message "Dir changed outside ExamDiff Pro" on my new Vista laptop. After a while, Vista has changed the timestamp of the files copied to the current date & time. Changes 1000s of files. Very reproducible. Does this whether in ExamDiff Pro 3.1 (registered) or the new 4.5 beta (trial) with Vista. This does nos happen on my XP laptop. I use 2 laptops and a USB backup drive. I suspect Vista, but have no idea where to start looking. Please help if you know how.

These are notoriously hard problems (BTW, I can reproduce it). It all depends when Windows reports directory changes after file operations.
You may want to tweak the following setting under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PrestoSoft\ExamDiff Pro\Settings: "Time Delay For Monitoring File Operatios" (yes, there's a typo there). The default is 100 milliseconds, and it's the time that ExamDiff Pro waits before restarting directory monitoring after internal file operations. Make it a little larger and see whether it helps you.
You may also want to change the notification option for directory comparison to "Notify" (Options | Misc).
