Kaspersky thinks 5.0.0.25 installer is a Trojan

Post by bwawsc »

I attempted to install 5.0.0.25 and it was promptly removed by Kaspersky Internet Security, which claims it acts like a Trojan. I was finally able to install it by disabling Kaspersky until after the install completed. However, this causes me some concern.

This one of temporary (until they update their virus definitions) false-positives that anti-virus programs at times exhibit. I can assure you that ExamDiff Pro contains no viruses. You can test it yourself at http://www.virustotal.com, which analyzes executables against multiple anti-virus engines.

I didn't think it was a Trojan (although the possibility crossed my mind that perhaps your installer had been hacked) - primarily I wanted to notify you that one of the engines (possibly a somewhat obscure one that you might not know about right away) was falsely identifying your installer as a Trojan so you could work with them to remove it. Kaspersky updates every few hours, unlike many of the others with multi-day cycles - so if you work with them they can whitelist it and disseminate quickly.

Thanks. We've kind of given up on whitelisitng - too many anti-virus companies with too many updates. These things typically sort out withing a day or two.
