Hi,
Are there any plans to make Examdiff compare more than 2 files, say for example, 4? If not, you should seriously consider it. It would sell. Here is why I say that (please have patience):
A considerable part of my job is programming machine tools using "G code". I currently use Examdiff Pro to create programs for two channel machines. These are machines in which two programs, running simultaneously, control the simultaneous motions of different tool heads. Special codes synchronize them so that the heads don’t crash into each other, among other things. With the help of psguru and other I have a session set to ignore lines containing the expression “\w+\b(?<!M5\d\d)” Since in the case of the machine tool in question the wait codes are “M5nn” where “nn” is any number between 00 and 99, this saved session ignores everything BUT the wait codes, and thus has the effect of lining up all the wait codes, which helps me keep aware of what will be going on as I am working. The text editing features of ExamDiff are well suited this kind of programming. Every two channel programmer with whom I have shared this loves it.
We recently purchased a 4 channel machine. Everyone I talk to who programs this type of machine says that if they had an editor that would line up the four channels by wait code they would buy it tomorrow. In the case of this 4-channel machine we have the above plus Pnn, Pnnn, & Pnnnn where each n represents a number from 1 to 4 and which enables the programmer to make 2 or 3 channels wait for each other while the other(s) keep(s) going . (Pnnnn would have the same effect as Mnnn).
Because the comparison is severely restricted it seems like it could be done without sending ExamDiff into a tizzy. Would you consider developing this as a special and if so what would it cost? My correct email is now in my profile.
More than 2 files?
Re: More than 2 files?
I have to disappoint you. This is not currently possible, and we have no plans to develop this feature. Version 6.0 is planned to have 3-way diff and merge but it is still quite a different feature than the one you requested.
