And I can tell you, again: did you see my screenshots? Do you need some more? No problem: how many?
Now, lets dig a bit.
I just noticed that, in the 64 bit, when I switch from one mode to the other the status bar is for some moments like in my binary screenshot, then becomes as in my byte-by-byte (and your) screenshot, so there is no special handling in the two modes, but for sure there is "in between".
Then, indeed, in the 32 bit in binary mode it stays that way, as I described.

That "in between" state, does it persist if you recompare? What about restarting EDP? Yes, when you recompare files you can see status panes being resized but in the end they should settle down, and this is what I see in both 32- and 64-bit modes.

If we are talking about the 32 bit then, yes, it's perfectly repeatable and rock steady.
Something in my settings?

Maybe. I just tried in Windows XP, 32-bit, and I can't reproduce your results.

We'll have the fix for different status panes for byte-by-byte mode in the next builds of 15 and 16. The problem was not directly caused by the mode but by what the first byte was, and that changed because of the mode switch.

We'll also make the selection pane smaller.

Thank you, as always.
