Sync Subdirectories?

Post by MandyBlack1 »

I'm new to ExamDiff and haven't found an answer to my question via search; forgive me if I've missed something.

I'm trying to compare a large file with many subdirectories on an external HD with its twin on my PC. If I find files that are in one location but not the other, I want to sync the two directories. The hitch is that I want all of those files to be put in similar subdirectories on the mirror drive, so that they can stay organized.

It's not clear to me that this would happen with a recursive search and sync. (Yet to compare each subfolder, or create a matching subfolder when I discover it is not on one or anther drive and then sync the two, would be unbelievably time consuming. I'm interested in this product in large part because I was hoping to compare and then copy things over in one fell swoop -- but while maintaining my organizational tree.

Many thanks in advance.

This is done by using the Edit | Synchronize Directories command in the Directory Comparison mode. First compare your respective directories, then use the command.

Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify: I can use the two main directories (one external HD, the other on computer) for comparison, hit the button you indicate, and they will synchronize the subdirectories -- does this include creating a subdirectory if it is found one place and not the other?

All of the above. I suggest to run the preview first in order to make sure that the results will be what you expect.
